Announcing 2025-2026 Auditions
In-Person Auditions: August 23rd, 2025

All in-person auditions will take place on August 23rd and may be video recorded for reference as seating is determined. We prefer potential members (especially new ones) to audition in person, but we do offer an online option for those who can't make it on, or joins after August 23rd.

When you audition, you will audition for the Northern Utah Youth Ensembles as a whole. The conductors and managers will decide which group to put you in. The decision will be based on your auditions and the needs of each ensemble. There will be a cap on all instruments for NUYS. Re-auditioning for the purpose of moving up to a higher level ensemble (for example, chamber to symphony) during the same calendar year is not permitted. However, if the conductor and manager determine that a member is performing above the current ensemble's skill level, the member may be invited to join a different ensemble.

Start practicing now for your audition! Below you will find the audition requirements and excerpts for each instrument. The auditions will be based on a point system; the harder the excerpt or scale, the more points you can potentially earn. We encourage everyone to challenge themselves!

We will accept video auditions until August 22nd. If your video is submitted after this date, you will be placed at the back of the section for the first concert. You may be able to move up after our first concert cycle at the discretion of the section specialist.

Important Notes:
- Some schools don't start until after the audition date! Students who did not hear about the auditions soon enough are still encouraged to audition! We will not exclude you for missing the audition deadline.

We work with musicians who have marching band conflicts but they MUST communicate at the *beginning* of the season about *all* their conflicts, filling out the absence form for every anticipated absence, and talking with the manager.

Step 3: Sign up for an in-person audition, choose a time on one of the following spread sheets:

Step 4: Review the Member Handbook and fill out the Acceptance and Payment Form (per family) & the Medical Release Form (per individual) to be handed in by the 2nd rehearsal. Member Handbook and required Forms

Step 3: Make a video recording of yourself, and upload it to YouTube, Google Drive, One Drive, Dropbox, Google Photos, or some other place in the cloud.
Step 4: Send us your link using this form, as soon as possible, even if it's after the priority deadline. Because multiple people will view your video, be sure your sharing settings allow anyone with the link to view.

Your video must be unedited, and 5 minutes or less, and should be recorded in one take.

We accept new video auditions ongoing throughout the year, but depending on the timing of your audition, we may ask you to wait to join rehearsals until after a concert performance, or sit in the back of the section until seating is adjusted.
