NUYS Announcements for 17 April

Greetings!

I've noticed that we are getting tired and coming later and later! Please be sure to come early so you're ready for the start time of sectionals. It's a short sectional tomorrow, and every minute counts! We can power through these last few weeks and put on a stupendous concert! I believe in you!

Here's our schedule for tomorrow:
8:00 doors unlock automatically - thanks to those who so consistently come early and help set up! You are wonderful!
8:20 prepare for sectionals
8:30 short sectionals (all separate, strings where we've been sending you, with Fanfare for a minute down the hall)
9:00 Full Orchestra
Wieniawski will be first, for about a half hour
Capriccio Espagnol
Meistersinger
(Mr Dunn is leaving early, at which time Jarom will guest conduct the rest of the rehearsal)
(There will also be a break sometime in there!)
11:00 Pack up and put away
11:30 doors lock automatically

You know the drill with attendance, especially if you are sick or quarantined! Please let me know:

Have a most wonderful afternoon!

Hello all, just a quick reminder about rehearsal tomorrow! 9:45 - 11:15 AM, like normal. I may not be able to attend rehearsal, so if you have a question for me, please text or email me. Thanks!

NUYS Announcements for tomorrow

Greetings!

Tomorrow's rehearsal will look like this:
8:00 Doors Unlock - come help setup
8:20 Prepare for sectionals
8:30 Sectionals for 40 minutes- including splitting up the strings, and the Fanfare with the brass and percussion. Violin 1 - Entrance Hallway, Violin 2 - across from woodwinds, Viola - stage, Cello - gym, Bass - by the art class
9:15 Full Orchestra
Capriccio first, esp the 4th mvt
Announcements then 5 minute break
Meistersinger
Concerto about the last 30 minutes

Thanks, y'all! The time of the concert may shift yet again, but probably only a half hour. Weber high band changed their concert date, so we only need to worry about our Chamber orch and their concert master playing with South Cache MS at 7! What a rollercoaster.

Have a lovely day! See you tomorrow for our regular rehearsal time, and remember the drill about being sick, quarantined, or absent. Here is the link to the Attendance Form.

Schedule for the Concert Day (This is a change!)
In coordination with a couple schools who have conflicts on the day of our concert, and being proactive about other conflicts that might come up, we have  made the following plan for the May 17th Concert at Box Elder High School:
3:00 pm, set up
3:30 pm, NUYS Short Sound-check Rehearsal
4:15 pm, NUYCO Short Sound-check Rehearsal
5:00 to 6:30 pm, Concert
Hopefully this gives everyone enough lead time to participate fully. This should eliminate the conflicts that we know about (South Cache MS), and also take care of conflicts we don't know about. For those who do have a concert at 7 pm at WHS, you will be excused from the warm-up call time. That's a good thing! We neeeeed you as much as Mr W neeeeeds you!!!

One other note:
The state-wide mask mandate is scheduled to expire April 10th. However, we will continue to follow the same guidelines we've already been using.

Thanks, everyone! You are wonderful! Thanks for making this our Miracle Year!

See you tomorrow.... I hope you've enjoyed your spring break, or will be enjoying it soon, depending on your school schedule. If you are in town during any of this, please be sure to come to rehearsal.

And, as always, use the Attendance Form if you will be missing rehearsal... like if you are sick or have been quarantined (or get to go somewhere).

:)

If you are interested, go to this link and read the rules, and scroll through past performers and what they played!

See you all tomorrow! We have contacted the two schools (Mountain Crest and Weber) that we know have concert conflicts with our May 17th concert. Have you checked your school's concert calendar? Are there any others? Now is the time!

Have a great night and see you tomorrow!

NUYS Announcements!

Greetings!

Concert date & time
We are noticing that there are possible conflicts for some students on May 17th. (There is nothing we can do about the date of the concert; it was essentially assigned to us as the "only available date" when our previous date was bumped for a school musical.)

We are willing to adjust the concert time to work with the people who have conflicts (for instance, one school has their concert that night!). Since we cannot change the date, we are looking at adjusting the time to accommodate our concert and theirs too. PLEASE look at your schedules NOW. This is the time to take care of these issues; they cannot be remedied later! We need to be proactive!

Tomorrow's rehearsal schedule:
8:00 am - Doors unlock; come help set up
8:20 am - Prepare for sectionals
8:30 am - Sectionals as follows:
Strings in the gym
Woodwinds and Brass where they normally go
Percussion on the stage in the Kiva
9:30 am - Full orchestra in the following order:
Wagner - Die Meistersinger
Rimsky-Korsakov - Capriccio Espagnol
Wieniawski - Concerto
Copland - Fanfare for the Common Man (ww and strings excused 15-20 minutes early)
11:00 am - Clean up
11:30 am - Doors lock

Heads up: The rehearsal on April 3 will be early! It will begin at 8 am and end at 10.

Don't forget about the Attendance Form, and don't come if you are sick (with anything) or quarantined.

See you all tomorrow!!!!

Mid Week Announcements - NUYCO

Hello families!

We have two pieces right now - a Brahms and a Bach. The Beethoven piece (the third B) will be handed out in two weeks, probably.

Did you know NUYCO has a Youtube playlist? Mr. West updates it with helpful videos. He has recently added a complete recording of our Brahms piece. Keep an eye out for more selections!

Remember our Private Teachers List (found here, under Our Music Teacher Spreadsheet List)! It is very helpful for your NUYCO member to have a private teacher. This list covers a large area from Bear Lake to Tremonton to Provo and everywhere in between. Check it out and show our local teachers some love!

We don't take a spring break since we have members in so many different schools. We did take March 6 off, so hopefully you were able to do something fun! There are no scheduled breaks until after our concert on May 17.

We will have an EARLY REHEARSAL on April 3, most likely 8:15 - 9:45 AM. Stay tuned for any changes about that. Thanks for your support and dedication!

 See you on Saturday!

NUYS Announcements!

Greetings!

Looking forward to getting together again this Saturday? Great! Let's do it. (Well, I'll be out of town snuggling my new grandson, so you'll have to let me know how it goes!)

We will be doing a sightreading run through of the music, so there will not be sectionals this week.  The Fanfare for the Common Man readthrough will be last.

For your youtube pleasure, here are the links again to the videos with scores for the music. Mr Dunn highly highly recommends (begs) for you to watch these before Saturday!

Here is Saturday's Schedule:
8 am Doors open - Come help Josie put folders on stands!
8:30 Full Orchestra rehearsal, with break, and with Fanfare to be last
(Sorry, brass! Hopefully this doesn't kill you off!)
11:00 Clean Up
11:30 Doors Lock

Thanks, everyone, and I'll see you next week!

Checking in! - NUYS

Greetings!

We are geared up and ready to go for next week! I hope you have had a lovely and well-deserved day off! We worked hard for those 7 weeks to put together our concert, and I felt great about our performance!

Next week we will jump in and start preparing for our final concert (Monday, May 17th, Box Elder High School).

I thought it might help you to know what is on the program.
Violin Concerto No 2, first movement, by Wieniawski, (1st movement is 11:30) featuring Natalie Nef on Violin

The links to these videos are wonderful because someone with nothing better to do has put scores to the music! Learn which line is yours and follow along. It's pretty cool. And the more we hear this music in the next week, the better prepared we all will be to get started on the music next week.

For those of you who notice these kinds of things, all the music we have for you to play is in the right key for your instrument, even though the scores are in strange keys.

Let me know if you have any questions!

:)

Press Release: Northern Utah Youth Symphony in Concert

The Northern Utah Youth Symphony and Chamber Orchestra will present their second concert of the year Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 3:30 pm in the Mount Logan Middle School auditorium. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, seat reservations are only available through members of the orchestras. Admission is free, thanks to our sponsors.

The Northern Utah Youth Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Nathan West, will open the concert with arrangements of Dvorak's Slavonic Dance No 8 from his opus 46, Stephen Foster's Beautiful Dreamer, and Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien.

The Northern Utah Youth Symphony, under the direction of Maestro Conrad Dunn, will then take the stage with some meaty classics. They will begin with Dvorak's Slavonic Dances no. 5, 6, & 7 from his opus 72, followed by Ernest Bloch's Rhapsodie from his Suite Hebraique for solo viola and orchestra, featuring Talmage Kay on viola. Then they will perform Brahms' Academic Festival Overture, and Del Borgo's Aboriginal Rituals.

Featured Soloist:
Talmage Kay was enthralled with the violin at age two, and vowed to learn a string instrument. He reluctantly excelled on the piano beginning at age five, and was finally able to touch a violin on his 8th birthday. From 3rd to 5th grade, he played in two beginning orchestras, and took private lessons. In 6th grade, while listening to the differing musical parts, he loved the rich harmonies of the viola. Playing the viola has taught him of musical complexity and the importance of teamwork throughout the symphonic sections.

He is a senior at Green Canyon High School, and will be going to BYU-Idaho to study Computer Science and play in their ensembles.  Among his favorite composers are Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Handel, Suk, Bloch, Vivaldi, Bach, and of course, himself. He enjoys creating music and computer programs, sometimes doing both at the same time. He has played under the direction of Conrad Dunn for 9 years, and has taken part of the Northern Utah Youth Symphony for 5 years. He has performed in two of his school musicals: Aida and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and played in the Cache Symphony Orchestra under Mark Emile.

He would like to thank Jen Sova, his first violin teacher who happened to be a viola player; Carolyn Larson, who showed him how nice the piano harmony with the violin could be; Jayme McKenna, his current private teacher for the last 5 years who has done a great job pushing him to take opportunities given to him; Patrick Clark, his school orchestra director who puts Talmage in his place as a violist; Julie, who pretty much runs the whole symphony show and keeps his section's fingerings in check; his viola, who has been with him through many scary auditions and performances; Adam Day, his luthier of nine years; Ryan Scott, his accompanist for 4 years (since Ryan was 13) who has fixed innumerable problems in performances without anyone knowing; Paula Scott, Ryan's "Julie" (mom) and page turner; Talmage's family, who have supported him through the ups and downs of playing an instrument putting up with the early morning and late night practices; and his parrot, Cooper, who loves to sing along with the music in the house.

Sponsors:
Northern Utah Youth Symphony is a project of the Lake Bonneville Symphonic Society (a non-profit organization), which is supported by the George S and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation, Utah Arts and Museums, the National Endowment for the Arts; as well as local sponsors: Curtis Financial and Tax Management, Inc., Dr. W Clark Andersen of Edge Orthodontics, Aaron F Gardner of Brain Train Utah, Dr LaMar Johnson of PetsFirst! Wellness Center, and Grover Wilhelmsen of Classical Strings.

Concert: Audience Registration Drive and other info

Greetings!
It's time to register our audience! Please read this whole email, and contact me if you have any questions, and get your guests to fill out the form. I've heard other groups could only have 2 spectators, so the fact that we are doing 4 is pretty cool.

Please note this is 4 spectators PER FAMILY and not PER PERFORMER. The auditorium is smaller than our previous venue, so this is the best solution I could come up with. Thank you!

Concert details
Date: Saturday, 27 February 2021
Time: 3:30 pm (ending time - about 4:45 pm)
Location: Mount Logan Middle School, 875 N 200 E, Logan UT 84321

Schedule for the day:
Setup: 11:00 am
NUYS On-Stage Rehearsal: 11:30 am to about 1:45 pm
NUYCO On-Stage Rehearsal: 2:00 to 3:00 pm
Volunteer check-in & ushers arrive 2:15 pm
Audience seating begins: 2:30 pm
Call time for the concert: 3:00 pm
CONCERT: 3:30 pm

Audience registration:
The audience will be pre-registered in groups of up to 4 people. Each family may have 4 seats with an option to request more seats in the comments (this is a change from last time when we said each performer). We will let you know the week of the concert if the extra seats you requested will be available to you.

If a family has no spectators coming to the concert, we still need you to fill out the form and choose "0" for your number. Then we know you have responded and that your seats are available for others. That was a missing aspect of our registration last time. Thank you for your cooperation! You are wonderful!

Volunteers:
You can volunteer to check in the audience, usher (and mark the map), and also to clean up, at this volunteer spreadsheet link

Thank you in advance for your kind assistance.

Please let me know if you have questions. If you have a question, others probably have that question too. 🎵

Thanks!

NUYCO - Concert Announcements

Hello! I've tried to reduce the number of emails lately, but now we are nearing a concert! Prepare for a few emails in the next couple of weeks. :)

We will start the audience registration project on Monday, so watch for that.

We are considering setting the concert time on February 27 at Mount Logan Middle School for 3:30 PM. If you have an insurmountable issue with that time, PLEASE let me know TODAY. Hypothetically, that would put the NUYCO stage rehearsal time from 2-3.

Thanks!
