This is Julie Gardner, Managing Director of Lincoln Youth Symphony, GJulieKay@gmail.com, 435.723.8262. Please contact me with questions or if you need to arrange for an absence.

Parent Meeting.
Thanks to all who came to our parent meeting. I truly enjoyed putting names to faces, and I am honored to know you. Thanks for letting us hold you hostage for 45 minutes; we truly believe in music for the youth. If you have any ideas or suggestions about anything feel free to let us know!

Welcome New Musicians.
Welcome to all who are playing with us this year! I suppose we are all new, since it's a new year. Start learning names, and enjoy this time with each other! Let's welcome a few new people each week until we have a whole gaggle of Violins, another Oboe, Bassoon, and Trombone, and at least one Bass and one Tuba!

Your Permission to distribute roster.
I am planning to distribute a roster to everyone in the youth symphony. Please contact me if you are concerned about this in any way (I will assume that no response equals consent). I believe that you will have more opportunities for carpooling if you have each other's contact information.

Music for the concert.
Today we checked out music for the entire year. This is a new experiment for us, but we believe it will be a great thing to take the opportunity to rehearse the more difficult music throughout the year so it's more polished by the end. There is a lot of music in your folders, but we are not playing all of it for the first concert! Here is a preliminary list of what we will be playing, and when:

November 21 Concert:
Haydn: Symphony 101: Finale (and possibly the first movement)
Mozart: Wedding March from the Marriage of Figaro
von Weber: Three Rustic Dances
Grieg: The Last Spring (you don't have this one yet)
January 30 Concerto Concert:
Frescobaldi: Toccata
Additional pieces to be determined at concerto auditions
April 23 Final Concert:
Liszt: Les Preludes
Tchaikovsky: Three Pieces from Swan Lake
Mozart: Titus Overture
Weinberger: Odzemek

No rehearsal next week.
Have a great Fall Break, and we'll see you October 10th for Auditions at 8:00am and Rehearsal 8:30 - 11:00am.

Concerto Auditions.
If you have been preparing a concerto, or have a friend that has been preparing a concerto, we'd love to hear you or your friend for Concerto Auditions on Nov 7th! Please be sure to approve the music you are planning on playing to make sure our orchestra is able to play it and to make sure the music is available. The board has made a policy that members of the organization may audition for concerto night without a fee; non-members will be charged a fee for auditioning, but the auditions are open to anyone. The concert will be January 30. We hope to have several students on the program this year, and we are also working on a guest performer.

Have a great week... actually, have a great two weeks!

Practice hard, not hardly, and we'll see you Oct 10.

Lincoln Youth Symphony Audition Reminder & Change of Schedule

This email is from Julie Gardner, managing director of the Lincoln Youth Symphony. It is going out to all who may be interested in auditioning for Youth Symphony (and to those who came to Tuesday auditions in case they want to pass this email on to someone who will want to come Saturday).

There has been a change of schedule!

We have realized how awkward it would be to have a rehearsal on the same day as auditions.
So, there will not be a rehearsal this Saturday.
The original information said there would be, but that is now obsolete!

This Saturday will be dedicated to auditions, beginning at 8:00 am at Adele C Young Intermediate School, 830 Law Drive, Brigham City, UT 84302. We will stay as long as needed to hear everyone play.

Our first rehearsal will then be September 26th at 8:00 am, with the parent meeting directly following from 11:15 to 12:00 noon.

Audition acceptance letters will be in the mail this Saturday, so watch for them Monday in your mailbox.

Thanks in advance for your support! This is going to be a great Symphony Year.

-Julie Gardner

Lincoln Youth Symphony Auditions & Change of Schedule

This email is from Julie Gardner, managing director of the Lincoln Youth Symphony. It is going out specifically to the fabulous people who took time out of their busy schedules to audition for Lincoln Youth Symphony on Tuesday (yesterday). Thank you for your efforts!

There has been a change of schedule!
The promised letters will not be mailed out before this Saturday because we have realized how awkward it will be to have a rehearsal on the same day as the remaining auditions. So, there will not be a rehearsal this Saturday. It will be dedicated to auditions. Our first rehearsal will be September 26th with the parent meeting directly following.

We are sorry for the extra waiting period, and thank you for your patience. We promise it will all work out in the end! The letters will be in the Saturday mail so you will have your responses (as will those who audition this Saturday) by Monday of next week.

Thank you so much for coming yesterday! It was great to get to know each of you, or to see you again!

Please reply to this email so I know you received it. I will be phoning those who don't reply, just to be sure they got the message, so hit reply right now and save me a phone call!

Thanks again for everything! This is going to be a great Symphony Year.

-Julie Gardner
